Year 1

Now in the main part of the school and growing and learning all the time, Year 1's horizons expand. Their base is now the Pre-Prep building but the site is familiar, as are the specialist teachers. There are exciting new challenges in store!

Year 1 Space Day

Creative

Increasingly formal, but flexible enough to follow the interests of the children, teaching is hugely creative. Topics excite and stimulate imaginations. The children’s knowledge of the wider world and their place in it increases and they thrive. They have fun with drama and role-play and lots of ‘hands-on’ experiences to bring learning to life.

Each year, Year 1 immerses themselves in the magic of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, with a day filled with vibrant activities and joyful celebrations. Highlights include a cookery masterclass where children learn to make Bombay Aloo and chapatis, the creation of colorful Rangoli patterns, designing intricate henna art, and dressing in traditional attire. It’s a celebration that brings the spirit of Diwali to life.

Engaging

Year 1 is a time of exploration, growth and excitement, where every day brings new opportunities to learn and shine. Trips play a key role in enriching the Year 1 experience, sparking curiosity and bringing lessons to life. Recent adventures have included visits to We the Curious, the Bristol Zoo Project, Bristol Aquarium and the Oxford Science Centre.

Back in school, children grow in confidence through class assemblies and plays, enthusiastically contributing to discussions and thriving in an engaging environment. Lessons are designed to inspire, with French-speaking skills blossoming, music becoming more tuneful, and hockey, rugby, swimming and athletics complementing their academic progress. Year 1 children achieve so much in this dynamic and nurturing environment!
