How we do it

At Berkhampstead, we nurture each child’s natural abilities through high-quality teaching, personalised attention, and a wealth of academic, extra-curricular and sporting opportunities.

From age 3, children benefit from specialist teaching in French, PE, and Music, with our expert staff inspiring and challenging them with their deep subject knowledge. This complements the excellent class teaching in Pre-Prep, where small class sizes and individual attention help build confidence and ensure success.

In Years 3-6, pupils are taught by specialist teachers across all subjects, moving between dedicated classrooms, labs, and studios. ICT is fully integrated into the curriculum, and computing—including coding—is introduced early, ensuring children grow into confident, capable users of technology.

Support

Every child at Berkhampstead benefits from tailored support to help them thrive. Teachers carefully differentiate tasks to match individual abilities, and teaching assistants provide in-class support. For those needing extra help, our robust systems ensure that every child reaches their potential.

Children can visit the Boost Room for one-to-one lessons or assessments with our Head of Learning Support, Mrs Jo Shoukry, while special group sessions focus on improving literacy and numeracy. Maths Boost and Lexia Clubs are highly regarded, offering valuable opportunities to strengthen core skills.

Class teachers work closely with pupils and parents, providing additional activities and strategies to support both gifted learners and those who need extra assistance.
