At Berky, our extensive range of clubs ensures there’s something for everyone. Sports enthusiasts can choose from options like Running, Rugby, Hockey (for boys and girls), Football (for boys and girls), Netball, Cricket (for boys and girls), and Fencing. For those with other interests, clubs include STEM, Drama, Chess, Yoga, Mandarin and Gardening.
Music is a cornerstone of Berky life, with 90% of pupils learning at least one instrument by Year 5. Our vibrant ensembles, including Berky Bows, Percussion Groups, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Chamber Ensemble, Keyboard Orchestra, Guitar Club, Junior Choir, and VoxBox (Senior Choir), perform at our Springs Concerts. At Christmas, our choirs sing for charity, and the Chamber Ensemble enjoys annual success at the Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts.
Chess is a much-loved activity at Berkhampstead, with clubs running twice weekly for pupils from Year 3 onwards. In the Summer Term, Year 2 children are invited to the Prep department to learn the game from our older, more experienced players. Our players achieve notable success regionally and frequently qualify for national competitions. We also host our own chess congress in the spring. Beyond competitive play, chess is a popular recreational activity, supported by two well-used chess sheds in the Prep playground, generously provided by the PTA.
There’s plenty on offer for our younger children to enjoy, with a diverse array of activities encouraging exploration and fun. Club offerings change each term and may include: • Strum It! (Ukulele group) • Crash, Bang, Wallop! (Percussion Group) • SupaStrikers Football Club • Helen Gill Ballet • Funky Fingers • Nature Rangers • Multi-Skills • Drama • Drawing • Athletics and Multi-Skills • Eco Club
