Eddie the Penguin Saves the World

Eddie the Penguin Saves the World

‘Eddie the Penguin’ is a play about how everyone’s contribution towards saving the planet makes a difference. Eddie and his penguin friends notice with alarm that the Antarctic is melting. Along with some friendly whales and polar bears, the resourceful penguins form the rock band ‘Eddie’s Cool Operators’ (ECO for short!) and travel the world with vitally important messages for the wasteful, thoughtless humans who are causing the problem: walk rather than drive, turn off unnecessary electrical appliances, look after the world’s trees and reduce, reuse and recycle as much rubbish as possible.

Although it contains a serious message, this play is also full of fun and lively, catchy songs; Year 2, with the help of Year 1, performed with great panache. Thanks to the genius of Mrs Sallis, there were some terrific solos and instrumental contributions – both sung and played. The children involved in stage management were slick and efficient and Mrs Taylor’s and Miss Middleton’s scenery was truly awesome. The heartwarming story was delivered loudly and clearly; we can only hope that the audience took notice and are now doing their bit for Planet Earth.
