Old-Fashioned Wash Day

Year One scrubbed and wrung and worked very hard to get the clothes clean - the ‘hands-on’ experience really brought home to all what an effort wash day was! The children were relieved that that kind of manual labour is no longer needed in our homes. Later they made observational drawings, contrasting old and new equipment, such as irons and colanders, taking care not to get too grubby from the charcoal and having to wash things all over again!
