Pre-Prep

What are we doing this term?          How can I support my child's learning?

The Pre-Prep caters for children aged 4 to 7 and gives them a flying start to their full-time education.  The curriculum is designed to inspire and engage. Imaginative teaching, where the children really participate is at the heart of what we do.

The Pre-Prep buildings incorporate an art room, a music room, an ICT room, a gymnasium and a library.  Outdoors, there is a large and well equipped play area with both grass and firm surfaces.

Classes are small and each is taught by a fully qualified teacher, supported by a team of experienced teaching assistants. Speakers visit (see the Rainforest experience) and field trips are frequent.

ICT is used extensively, as well as more traditional teaching resources. We work very closely with each child and provide an individually tailored education.

There is always time to incorporate some 'hands-on' fun too, as when the fire fighters visited and the children got chance to get up close with the engine and to ask lots of questions about the job.

Lessons are interesting and enjoyable, children engage fully with their learning. Cross curricular learning occurs often - see the recent History Mystery Day. Field trips and visits are frequent and topic work and drama stimulate children's interest.

The academic emphasis at this stage is on the basics of literacy, numeracy and writing skills. One of the school’s strengths is its broad and varied curriculum and even at this very early age we also teach Science, French, Art and ICT skills.  Do take a moment to look at our Gallery of Royal Portraits by Year 2.

Every child takes part in Music, French,PE and swimming lessons which are taught be subject specialists.  Our children are active and master the fundamental skills for Games by playing lots, having fun and being well coached.
DT practical fun.
From the outset, we keep a close watch for children who may develop learning difficulties and also for those with particular talents who can benefit from being stretched ahead of their classmates. As class sizes are small, we can cater easily for children of varying abilities.

Pre-Prep clubs include T'ai Chi and drama, music and football.

T'ai Chi, led by Mrs Lee

The Pre-Prep children enjoy the warm-up, with actions at Hymn Practice.  Singing and making music are popular parts of the school week.

Crash, Bang, Wallop!  Just one of our Pre-Prep music clubs,  makes learning fun.
